Tournament of Gimmicks: Play-In Game

Winner: 1995 Topps D3

The field of 64 is almost set, and the tournament that will crown the worst gimmick in Hobby history is about to get under way. But first, to determine the 64th and final entry...

TOURNAMENT OF GIMMICKS PLAY-IN GAME

#16a) 1995 Topps D3 A product so awful, they didn't even bother with a second series. Overpriced, and gimmicky TO THE EXTREME!

#16b) 1995 UC3 UC3 was essentially the same product as Topps D3, only $2/pack cheaper.

Vote now in the comments. You have until 10PM EDT, Friday, March 19, to vote.

Topps D3.

At least Sportflix sort of knew what they were doing with cheesy lenticular motion cards. Topps was just clueless. Who does a 59 card set with one 6 card insert?

D3. I actually kinda liked UC3, maybe I'm just weird like that.

Gotta say D3 too.

D3, for sure. Sportflix wasn't that bad. This was definitely when card sets started getting out of hand though - what was the need for either of these?

I say UC3 was worse. That gimmicked Nomo rookie really sped the implosion of the hobby.

D3 wins here. The first time is a bad gimmick. The second time around it is just another money-grab. Awesome idea going on here, BTW.

D3 moves on... If it were up to me.

D3. By far. Just because from the looks of things, UC3 looks less crappy.

just to go against the grain i'll vote for the UC3 - though mostly because of that HIDEOUS nomo card you scanned. what the eff? he has a thalidamide flipper for an arm so they could fit their awful logo. oof.
