Finally, an explaination of those Black Bordered Topps base cards.

Ripped-and-posted directly from Topps.

"Topps is confirming that it randomly inserted special “BLACK” cards (the entire front of the card is black except for player image) in 2009 Topps Baseball Series 1 $19.99 value boxes found at Wal-Mart.

"The exclusive limited edition set includes each of the 330 subjects found in the 2009 Topps Series 1 Base Set."

And now you know. And knowing is half the battle.

Would you consider this move a "gimmick"?

If so, where is your usual outrage?

Once again, Topps informing the dead and injured after they drop the bomb.

This makes me mad. As a set collector, I DIDN'T WANT any of these stupid black bordered cards. If that's not some type of misleading/false advertising, I don't know what is.

So, the only difference between these and the normal black-bordered #d/59 or whatever cards is that these don't have a serial number?

Mario, bullshit and gimmickry is right there in the labels. Of course nowadays you only really need to put 'Topps" anymore to convey that message.

I am SO glad I did not buy a blaster if I had I might have quit buying '09 cards.

I'd like to think that this is similar to the red backs of 2007 and the gold foils in 2008. These are not gimmicks because it's not like they limited the production to one or two cards. It wouldn't be so bad, as dayf said, if these came one per pack...

But for full blaster packs to have these cards???

The thing that scares me is that we don't know if this is a Wal-Mart glitch or if for series 2, Wal-Mart will get the normal boxes and Target will get the black parallels blaster boxes.

On an unrelated note, they don't look too bad, they just easily chip because of the black borders. The fronts kinda reminds of 1995 Topps Cyberstats, but without the foil look to it.

However, I do agree that if WalMart was the only shop in my area (and thank goodness they're not), and I saw blasters as the best way to complete a set, either I'd have to think that I can get a full set of these black cards, or that Topps really messed up somewhere in distribution.

Sincerely,

Does anyone think that Target will have red stealth parallels?

So you say they randomly inserted these "Black" card in the Series 1 Blasters. Some say the full pack has them. Question is, is the whole box black cards or only random packs? I bought some 2009 packs at Wal-Mart and they were white like the normal cards and also bought one of those cereal boxes that had all white cards. What is random?
