You Pick the Vintage Set

Last night, I received my college degree.

Now that that's over with, I'm now onto the next item on my life's "to do" list: Collect a complete mid-70s Topps set.

There are five such sets that I have had my eye on, but I can't decide which one to begin with. So, I leave it to you. The nominees are:

1972
1974
1975
1976
1979

Pick a winner.

Congrats on the degree. I like the 76 set. The little guy in the corner is cool.

I've thought about going after 1975, my birth year. But haven't gotten around to actually doing it yet.

Congrats Man.

I graduated yesterday from Rutgers-New Brunswick, so I know how you're feeling.

Go for '72. Those matinee headers are awesome. Plus you'll have to get a vida blue in action of him searching out a pop up.

74 come on 74 has like 8 Hank Aaron cards

congrats.

It's gotta be 1972. One of the best ugly designs ever.

Congrats, man. I remember my graduation day... seven years down the drain.

If you want a CHALLENGE, go for 1972. The high series cards will be murder though. I personally like '74 for all the Hank Aaron hero worship, the Winfield rookie and the Washington "Nat'l" cards.

75 is a popular set for collectors.

72 will be a challenge to get the higher numbers, but the most unique design of all the Topps in my opinion

74 features some of the Wash Nat'l card variants...I also liked the manager cards that showed the coaches.

79 Sucked..... No way around it and those God awful b&w prospect cards

76 - probably the easiest of the 70s sets to complete....

Glad you didn't mention the 73 set, perhaps the worst set Topps ever came out with.

I have been having a little homage to my birth year set, 1976, over at Stats on the Back. Check it out.

Go with 74! Unless you were born in one of the other years.

I'd go with 1975

'72 and '75 are two of my favorite sets of all time, so I say pick one of those.

Congratulations on getting your degree! I have a BA, too. Other than serving as the springboard to my Master's (which is MA), the only really good thing is that the degree put me in a different pay bracket. I work in technology with teachers and students. Basically, my degree has nothing to do with my career. Why say all this? Because the fact you HAVE one is a very good thing! Be proud of it, but dont let it hinder your career choices in any way!! Do what ya love to do, no matter what's on the piece of paper.

1975.

It's a funky set representative of the era. It still has the star power of an Aaron while having affordable HOF rookies in Yount, Brett and Carter.
