1994: The Last Great Year.
1994 was the last truly great year to be a card collector. And with 2009 upon us, Stale Gum will take a look back at what made that year so great.
One-by-one, I'll be taking a second look at some of the greatest (and no so greatest) baseball card sets of the era.
So that's something to look forward to.

hmm... I'm wracking my brain for an epic year in the past twn years or so, but I'm drawing a blank. you might be right that '94 was the last great one. 2008 sure the hell wasn't great!
For me its 2005. you have the greatest draft class probably ever, no "RC logo", all sorts of awesome releases (Reflections, Diamond Kings, TC Update, Bowman Sterling, Bowman Draft, UD Origins)
and of course all the card companies were able to put out product instead of just two.
Glad to see your staying busy and not pulling a "Ben Henry or Stale Gum". (this joke brought to you by Wax Heaven)
I have to agree. I stopped collecting in 1995 and didn't start again until a few months ago.
I agree with Tom. 2005 was a good year. The 2005 Topps design was very nice. Heritage was solid. Ultra was nice. Huge selection of sets. Very good rookie class. However, Fleer sucked.
1994 was my peak buying year. I own almost 5,000 cards from that year. Most years since I haven't bought half that many. I'm looking forward to your review.
Looking forward to the posts and rationale for 2004 being the best year.
