Guess That Gimmick!

We're just a few weeks away from the first series of 2009 Topps baseball. And we all know what that means....

So what do you say we have some fun with it. In the comments, take a guess what the gimmick in 2009 Topps Series One is. If you can accurately guess what it is, you'll win...

    I would guess the Alex Rodriguez base card will have a ghosted image of Barack in the background. It is too natural of a gimmick to pass up.

    I think the gimmick is there is no gimmick. No one would believe it, would they? It'd be the biggest newsmaker of them all!

    I'm trying to think of an idea that Topps hasn't tried yet to screw over collectors...wow that's like scorched earth territory there. I got it! On April 1st, on their website, Topps will reveal that ALL the cards released thus far were an elaborate April Fools inside joke, like Kazuo Uzuki only multiplied by 330, and then release 330 more cards. Get ready for Topps 2009, the 1,320 card set. Dammit! I forgot they read every blog. I just gave them a license to print money. You now know where to send your violent emails when this happens.

    I'm guessing something involving the Yankees, possibly with Sabathia, Tiexeira, or Burnett. Or something involving non-Yankees being labeled as Yankees

    Or maybe a New York Mets horrible new stadium patch card?

    I was going to say Obama celebrating with the Cubs on their championship (the whole card is photoshopped), or Obama playing basketball. But I think Russ has those in mind.

    I will go along the lines of something with their retired players that they are including in the set. Maybe somehting along the lines of a "Then and Now" photoshopped card, or Ruth/Gherig in the background of an ARod/Jeter classic combos card.

    Let's see:

    1) Obama White Sox team card.

    2) Ben Frankin on the Phillies team card.

    3) Maybe because they know we're expecting it: no gimmick this time! (at least for series 1)

    Instead of a 1/1 auto-gamer, a "0/0" auto-gamer (kinda like the amp that goes to 11 in Spinal Tap). It's so rare that it doesn't exist!
